  • Heavy rainfall and associated floods continue to affect most parts of the country since July, resulting in an increasing number of casualties and damage.
  • According to the United Nations and World Food Programme, at least 700,000 people have been affected across 36 counties, entire villages and crops have been flooded. The worst affected State is Jonglei, where 85,000 people have been displaced and 230,000 affected.
  • Humanitarian organizations are conducting response activities for those most affected.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to locally heavy rain is forecast across most parts of the country.
South Sudan, August 2020United Nations and media reported flooding in parts of Sudan from late July. The worst hit areas are along the White Nile in Jonglei and Eastern Nile States. Media report over 200,000 displaced. As of 13 August, this had not been confirmed by the UN or other sources. Note: This event is listed under the country "Sudan". Our current map system and "list of countries" doesn't include South Sudan as a separate country.
