UK and Ireland, Late February 2021Heavy rain from 19 February 2021 caused flash and surface flooding in parts of Wales, Scotland and England, UK, and parts of Ireland. In Wales, the Usk and Towy (Tywi) rivers broke their banks. The overflowing River Teifi prompted authorities to evacuation some homes in Newcastle Emlyn, although several residents chose to remain. In Scotland, areas near Callander, Stirlingshire, were flooded and the River Spey broke it banks flooding parts of Garmouth in Moray. In England, flooding interrupted rail travel in Cornwall and Hereford. In Ireland, parts of Clonmel town, County Tipperary, were flooded after heavy rainfall 19 February resulted in high levels on the River Suir. Further heavy rain fell in southern parts of Ireland from 23 February. Wind damage caused power outages in Cork, Kerry and Waterford. Authorities said roads were closed as a result of surface flooding in Cork, Kerry and Tipperary. Cork City Council said heavy rainfall caused surface water and hazardous driving conditions. Some roads were closed. Fire services pumped water from flooded buildings in Meadowbrook, Glanmire and Blarney.
