Eastern Caribbean, April 2021Heavy rain affected the Eastern Caribbean countries of St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia from 29 April 2021. Significant rainfall was also reported in Dominica. St Vincent and the Grenadines Heavy rain caused floods, landslides and lahars (volcanic mudflows) in several areas of St Vincent main island from 29 April, according to the country's National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO). Flooding caused traffic problems in Kingstown. Heavy rain caused 2 houses to collapse in the area and damaged several others. A landslide on the outskirts of the city blocked a road. Meanwhile lahars were reported in northern parts of the island. The University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research said that heavy rainfall generated lahars in the red and orange zones beneath La Soufriere. St Lucia Flooding and landslides also affected parts of the neighbouring island of St Lucia. The country's National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) reported flooding in Corinth and Dennery.
