Switzerland, Mid-July 2021Heavy rainfall on 13 July 2021 caused some flooding in Zurich, Switzerland. The heavy rainfall continued and increased levels of lakes and rivers. On 15 July National authorities reported the highest warning level (5) for Lucerne, Thun and Biel Lakes, while the water levels for Zurich and Brienz Lakes stand at high floods danger (level 4). DG-ECHO, quoting media sources, said several major roads, bridges, and houses have been damaged by floods across Basel, Zurich, Lucerne, Schwyz and Uri Cantons. The Association of Cantonal Building Insurers reported damages amounting to US$490 million, as of 18 July. Local media said flash floods causes major damage in Schleitheim and Beggingen in the canton of Schaffhausen after streams overflowed on 15 July.
