South Australia and New South Wales, Australia, January 2022Floodwaters in western New South Wales have continued to inundate roads and isolate residents as officials warn the peak is still yet to come. Media and Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) reported some flooding along the Darling River in western New South Wales from 20 January 2022. Roads were inundated and some communities isolated. Affected areas included Wilcannia, Tilpa and Bourke. Meanwhile heavy rain in South Australia caused flooding in parts of the Eyre Peninsula, in particular in Wirrulla. BoM said the town recorded more than 100 mm of rain. Media later reported more flooding in South Australia's north and west. State Emergency Service (SES) received 300 calls for assistance and rescued at least 11 people including in locations near Beltana and Whyalla. An entire section of the Olympic Dam Highway was also eroded between Pimba and Woomera. On 28 January a "Major Emergency" event was declared for South Australia following severe weather and extensive flooding in the northern areas of the state. SAPOL Commissioner and State Coordinator, Grant Stevens, said “There has been significant damage caused to rail and road infrastructure over the last few days and this is threatening food security in some areas of South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia.’’Fri 28 Jan 2022FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
