New Zealand, August 2022Red Level Heavy Rain Warnings (highest level) were issued wide areas of New Zealand from 17 August 2022. New Zealand Civil Protection reported a state of local emergency was declared for Nelson, Tasman and West Coast regions. Residents from 223 homes near the Maitai river in Nelson East were asked to evacuate immediately.
