Northern Chile, Late January 2023the National Office of Emergency of the Interior Ministry (ONEMI) in Chile reported coastal flooding in northern areas between the regions of Arica and Parinacota from 20 January 2023, after what the office describes as "abnormal storm surges". In Tarapaca Region, the port at Iquique was closed. In Antofagasta Region, dock areas were damaged in Taltal. One person had to be rescued in Caldera, Atacama Region, where a building was also damaged. A young person was reported missing after falling from cliffs into the sea at Coquimbo in Coquimbo Region.
