  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and tornadoes continued to affect southern USA (in particular Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Texas) over the past few days, causing floods and a number of severe weather-related incidents (in particular due to the strong wind) that have resulted in casualties and damage. In addition, heavy snowfall affected California over the last few day, leading to casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 7 March, 12 fatalities across southern States: five in Kentucky, three in Alabama, two in Tennessee, one Mississippi and one more Arkansas, all of these particularly due to strong wind-related incidents.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall and strong wind is still forecast over the already affected States across southern USA.

  • Heavy rainfall, heavy snowfall, strong winds and thunderstorms continued to affect northern and central California and the neghbouring western Nevada over the last week, causing floods, flash floods, snowmelts, rivers overflow and a number of strong wind-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage. The worst affected counties in California are Monterey, Merced and Tulare.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports, as of 14 March, two fatalities across the Monterey County (central California), 551 currently evacuated people in 26 shelters and approximately 16,000 mandatory evacuation orders in ten counties throughout northern and central California. In addition, several roads have been closed across 24 counties.
  • The declaration of state of emergency for 21 counties in California and for 14 counties in Nevada is still in force.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall and heavy snowfall is forecast over central and northern California. Heavy rainfall is also forecast over southern California. Moderate rainfall is forecast over most of Nevada. NOAA has issued winter storm warning over several counties across northern and central California.

  • Heavy rainfall, heavy snowfall, strong winds and thunderstorms continued to affect central and northern California (particularly in mountainous communities across the north-east) and the neighbouring western Nevada over the last 8-days, causing floods, mudflows and snowmelts that have resulted in an increased number of casualties.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports, as of 15 March, three fatalities across Monterey County (central California), 490 currently evacuated people in 30 shelters and around 28,000 mandatory evacuation orders throughout northern and central California. In addition, several roads have been closed due to landslides and flooding.
  • The declaration of the state of emergency for 21 counties (out of 58) in California and for 14 counties in Nevada is still in force.
  • Over the next 48 hours, moderate rainfall and snowfall are forecast over central and northern California. NOAA has issued flood warnings over some counties across northern California and western Nevada.

  • Heavy rainfall, heavy snowfall, strong winds and thunderstorms have been affecting central and northern California (in particular across mountainous communities) and the neghbouring western Nevada over the last days, causing floods, some strong wind-related incidents and triggering landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reports, as of 16 March, five confirmed fatalities across central California, 616 currently evacuated people in 32 shelters and approximately 27,000 mandatory evacuation orders throughout northern and central California. FEMA also reports multiple road closures due to landslides and floods.
  • In addition, heavy snowfall, strong winds and very low temperature (due to the so-termed "Nor'easter" storm) have been affecting the North East region (in particular Massachusetts, New York and New Hampshire) since 14 March. Media reports, as of 17 March, around 590,000 power outages and approximately 800 cancelled flights throughout the affected area.
  • Over the next 48 hours, dryer conditions are forecast over California and Nevada, while heavy rainfall, heavy snowfall and strong winds are forecast over the North East region.
Nevada, USA, March 2023On 10 March 2023, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency due to ongoing severe weather conditions in the state. The declaration was further expanded and by 16 March included: Carson City, Churchill County, Douglas County, Esmeralda County, Elko County, Eureka County, Humboldt County, Lincoln County, Lyon County, Mineral County, Nye County, Storey County, Washoe County, Walker River Paiute Tribe, White Pine County, Yerington Paiute Tribe, and the Yomba Shoshone Tribe. The governor said severe weather has brought heavy rainfall, flooding, rockslides, avalanches, and infrastructure damage to northern Nevada. As severe weather conditions continue, further flooding and infrastructure damage are anticipated throughout the region. Officials in Lincoln County issued a voluntary evacuation order for residents in the low-lying areas of Panaca on 16 March. Shelter sites were set up in local churches and schools.
