  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting northern and southern Kenya (in particular the Greater Nairobi Metropolitan area) since 22 March causing floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 27 March, one fatality, one injured person, more than 100 displaced families and a number of destroyed houses across the Greater Nairobi Metropolitan area. In addition, several displaced people and several destroyed houses were reported across the Moyale Town (Marsabit County, northern Kenya, bordering with southern Ethiopia).
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast over most of the Country.
Kenya, March 2023Local media in Kenya reported one person died, Hundreds of homes were destroyed and families were displaced after flooding in Nairobi and surrounding areas on 23 March 2023. Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) reported parts of the Nairobi - Mai Mahiu - Narok Highway were blocked or flooded. Flooding was also reported in other areas of the country around this time, including in Marsabit County (in particular Moyale) and Kisumu County.
