  • Heavy rains resulting in floods have been affecting the departments of Boquerón and Alto Paraguay in northwest Paraguay, disrupting access to basic services for the affected population.
  • According to Plan International, as of 9 April, more than 8,500 families have been affected, with 8,000 in Boquerón and 500 in Alto Paraguay. The affected population remains cut off from essential supplies due to road closures, leaving them without access to food, drinking water, medical assistance, and safe shelter.
  • Authorities have declared a state of emergency for the departments of Alto Paraguay, Boquerón, and Presidente Hayes.
  • Over the next 72 hours, additional rainfall is forecast across Paraguay, with isolated areas potentially experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
