  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of the states of Nigeria - 25 out of 36, mainly across the south - during the summer rainy season, causing severe floods and river overflows, particularly the Benue river, that have resulted in more casualties and widespread damage.
  • The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) report, as of 3 October, 230 fatalities, 681 injured people, approximately 121,000 displaced people, and a total of around 340,000 affected people across the country since mid June, where the worst affected states are Lagos, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Taraba, and Rivers. In addition, the same source and UN OCHA also report more than 42,000 destroyed or damaged houses throughout the affected states.
  • Over the next 96 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over most of the country.
  • The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency reported a growing risk of flooding along River Benue and Niger due to Lagdo Dam reservoir capacity, Cameroon, close to its maximal capacity.

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of the states of Nigeria - 27 out of 36 - during the summer rainy season, causing severe floods and river overflows that have resulted in more casualties and widespread damage.
  • The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reports 238 fatalities, 826 injured people, more than 135,000 displaced people, and a total of approximately 400,000 affected people across the country, where the worst affected states are Lagos, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Taraba, and Rivers states. In addition, the same source also reports more than 47,000 destroyed or damaged houses and over 60,000 ha of farmland devastated throughout the affected states.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over the central and southern states of the country.
