  • New Tropical Storm CHOI-WAN (locally known as DANTE) is moving north-west over the Philippine Sea. On 31 May at 0.00 UTC its centre was located approximately 470 km east of the central-eastern coast of Mindanao (southern Philippines), with maximum sustained winds of 93 km/h.
  • Since 30 May, heavy rain has been affecting parts of Mindanao, resulting in floods and causing at least two fatalities and one missing person specifically in South Cotabato and Davao del Sur Provinces, as reported by media. 
  • CHOI-WAN is expected to strengthen as it moves north-westwards over the Philippine Sea on 31 May - 3 June, passing along the eastern coast of the Philippines.

  • Tropical Storm CHOI-WAN (locally known as DANTE) is moving north-westwards over the Philippine Sea and on 1 June at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 135 km west of the north-eastern coast of Siargao Island (Surigao del Norte Province, south Philippines), with maximum sustained winds of 74 km/h. 
  • In southern Philippines, particularly in Davao Del Sur Province, 604 people have been displaced to 10 evacuation centres and up to 612 persons have been affected by heavy rain.
  • CHOI-WAN is forecast to make landfall on the midday of 1 June over the southern coast of Eastern Samar Province (Eastern Visayas), with maximum sustained winds up to 75 km/h. It is then expected to move north-west reaching Bicol Region (central-eastern Philippines) on 2 June.
  • Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals 1 and 2 have been issued for areas north of Mindanao, Visayas and south of Bicol. On 1-2 June, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over areas from northern Mindanao, Visayas, and Bicol.

  • Tropical Storm CHOI-WAN has reached north-eastern South China Sea and on 3 June at 6.00 UTC, its centre was located offshore, about 50 km west of Bolinao Town (Pangasinan Province, western Luzon), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
  • According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), following the passage of CHOI-WAN over central and southern Philippines, four people have died, seven are missing and two are injured across Mimaropa, the Visayas and Mindanao. More than 45,455 people have been affected and 1,043 persons were pre-emptively evacuated. Damage has been reported to 11 road sections, three bridges and six houses. 
  • CHOI-WAN is forecast to continue along the western Luzon coast, before turning north-east, entering Luzon Strait in the morning of 4 June with maximum sustained winds up to 55 km/h.
  • Tropical storm signals 1 and 2 have been issued for central and north-western Luzon. For the next 24 hours, strong wind, heavy rain and high waves are forecast over most of northern Luzon.

  • Tropical Storm CHOI-WAN is moving over north-eastern South China Sea, towards Luzon Strait. On 4 June at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 270 km south-west of the southern tip of Taiwan and about 280 km north-west of the northern tip of Luzon (northern Philippines), with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
  • After its passage over the Philippines, national authorities report six fatalities and three missing people. A total of 55,226 people have been affected, of which 16,680 are currently taking temporary shelters in 140 evacuation centres.
  • CHOI-WAN is forecast to make landfall over the southern tip of Taiwan in the morning of 4 June, with maximum sustained winds between 55-65 km/h. After that, it is expected to weaken as it enters the north of Philippine Sea, moving towards Yaeyama Islands (southern Japan). 
  • A typhoon warning has been issued for southern Taiwan and warnings for high waves are valid for northern Luzon. Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain, strong winds and high waves are forecast over southern Taiwan and moderate rain is expected over northern Luzon.
