  • A new tropical cyclone named HALONG formed over the Northwest Pacific Ocean on 4 October and started moving north toward the southern coast of central Honshu island - the main island of Japan - strengthening. On 9 October at 3.00 UTC, its centre was located over the ocean, approximately 250 km south-east of the Greater Tokyo area, with maximum sustained winds of approximately 190 km/h (typhoon).
  • According to the Japanese Fire and Disaster Management Agency (FDMA), as of 9 October, national authorities issued evacuation orders for around 8,850 people across the Greater Tokyo area.
  • HALONG is expected to continue eastward over the ocean, well off the coast of eastern Honshu island on 9-10 October, weakening into a tropical storm.
  • Over the next 48 hours, moderate rainfall is forecast over the Greater Tokyo area.
