  • On the afternoon of 2 July, a wildfire broke out in the Ierapetra municipality, southeast coast of Crete, causing damage and evacuations. On 3 July, a second fire erupted in the Rafina municipality, Attica region), southern Greece, also prompting evacuations.
  • Following the Ierapetra wildfire, media reported that four people have been hospitalised. The Greek Civil Protection Agency confirmed more than 300 evacuees due to the fire in Rafina.
  • To combat the Ierapetra fire, local authorities deployed 12 helicopters, 230 firefighters (including 13 hiking units), and 49 vehicles. In Rafina, 170 firefighters, 54 vehicles, and a large number of volunteers were mobilised
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) was activated in rapid mapping mode () on 3 July to provide detailed maps of the fire’s extent and monitor potential damage in Crete.
  • According to the European Forest Fire Information System (JRC EFFIS), the fire danger in the affected areas is forecast to remain high to very extreme over the next 24 hours.
