Kandilli Rasathanesi’nden, Türkiye’deki depremlerin tarihsel eğilimine ve zaman aralıklarına bakıldığında, yakın gelecekte 7’nin üzerinde bir depremin öngörüldüğü açıklaması geldi. 17 Ağustos 1999 depreminin yıldönünmünde, Kandilli Rasathanesi’nden açıklama geldi.
