Séisme au Japon: d'énormes glissements de terrain meurtriers Au moins neuf personnes ont péri et une trentaine sont portées disparues dans le nord du Japon, secoué jeudi par un puissant séisme de magnitude 6,6 qui a provoqué d'énormes glissements de terrain et une coupure de courant générale dans la région. Le tremblement de terre s'est produit en pleine nuit dans l'île septentrionale de Hokkaido, à 62 kilomètres au sud-est de Sapporo, deux jours à peine après un typhon dévastateur dans la région d'Osaka (ouest). La terre a continué à trembler après: des dizaines de répliques ont été ressenties. Outre deux morts annoncés en début de journée, sept personnes ont été découvertes dans la localité d'Atsuma en état d'arrêt cardiaque, une expression employée avant que leur acte de décès ne soit officiellement signé. Des vues aériennes montraient des montagnes littéralement coupées en deux par d'impressionnants éboulements qui ont arraché tous les arbres et englouti des maisons construites en contrebas. Les pompiers hélitreuillaient une partie des habitants mais 38 personnes restaient encore portées disparues, selon la chaîne de télévision publique NHK. Au moins 167 personnes ont par ailleurs été blessées. "J'ai cru que ma maison allait s'effondrer" "J'ai été réveillé un peu après 3 heures du matin par la secousse. J'ai allumé la lumière mais elle s'est éteinte juste après" à cause d'une coupure de courant, a confié à l'AFP Akira Fukui, un habitant de Sapporo. "Il y a eu une secousse soudaine, extrême. Je l'ai sentie de manière latérale très longtemps, ça s'est arrêté puis cela a recommencé à trembler. J'ai 51 ans et je n'ai jamais vécu une telle expérience avant", a raconté Kazuo Kibayashi, un responsable de la ville d'Abira, visiblement sous le choc. "J'ai cru que ma maison allait s'effondrer, tout était sens dessus dessous", a-t-il dit. "Ma fille, qui est au lycée, était terrorisée". "Nous exhortons les habitants des zones frappées par de fortes secousses à tenir compte des informations diffusées à la télévision et à la radio et à s'entraider", a insisté le porte-parole du gouvernement, Yoshihide Suga. Des refuges ont été ouverts dans les diverses régions touchées. Des militaires des Forces d'autodéfense sont arrivés sur place pour participer aux opérations de sauvetage: 25.000 hommes au total étaient attendus. "Il y a un risque accru d'effondrement d'habitations et de glissement de terrain dans les zones qui ont connu de fortes secousses", a-t-il prévenu lors d'un point de presse. Le Japon est situé à la jonction de quatre plaques tectoniques et subit chaque année quelque 20% des séismes les plus forts recensés sur Terre.
