My role on Whakaari was part of the eight-strong team that conducted the victim recovery, and successfully got six people off the island. Three of the team were corps medics. We have a lot of training on ambulances, and in emergency departments, and ICUs. We go to critical incidents where sometimes people die, so we have exposure to that.
