  • On 21 April, Sangay volcano, located in central Ecuador, erupted an ash column 8 km high above the crater which was directed towards the west of the volcano.
  • According to the national authorities, several cantons (particularly Montalvo, Baba, Simón Bolívar, Salitre, Bucay, Juján, Guamote) of the provinces of Guayas, Chimborazo, Los Ríos and Bolívar Provinces have been hit by the ashfall.
  • The activity of the volcano is constantly monitored by the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador (IGEPN).
