  • On 2 June, an intense volcanic eruption was registered at Mount Etna volcano, in the eastern Sicily region, in southern Italy.
  • According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), an explosive eruption occurred in the South-East crater at 2,500 meters above sea level. Several explosions were recorded, accompained by the collapse of the the northern part of the South-East crater and the subconsequent pyroclastic flow moving northward. Three lava flows were reported moving southern, eastern and northern directions. Ashfall was observed in Cesarò e Bronte municipalities, in Messina and Catania provinces respectively.
  • The INGV and national authorities are monitoring the area, and the access to the upper part of the crater is forbidden.
