Tropical Storm Khanun, South Korea, Mid-August 2023Heavy rainfall and strong winds from Tropical Storm Khanun caused flooding, landslides and extensive wind damage across South Korea on 10 August 2023. Media reported preempmtive evacuations, cancellations of flights and trains, and the closure of schools, sea routes and roads across the country. The slow-moving storm made landfall on the southeastern coast near Geoje early on 10 August. Yonhap news agency, quoting Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), said Khanun was expected to reach the capital Seoul by the evening of 10 August. after following an unprecedented path through the Korean Peninsula from south to north, the first storm to do so since recordkeeping began in 1951.Thu 10 Aug 2023Provided by Copernicus EMS GloFAS
