  • Severe thunderstorms affected Minas Gerais state and the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, in the Southeast region of Brazil, on 9 February, causing flooding and landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media reports, as of 12 February, six fatalities and five injured people in Minas Gerais due to a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall, and two injured people in Rio de Janeiro due to severe weather-related incidents. Several landslides have been reported in Rio de Janeiro that caused road closures and affected public transport.
  • Over the next 48 hours, drier conditions are forecast over the affected areas.
