Brazil - Landslides and floods

Severe thunderstorms affected Minas Gerais state and the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, in the Southeast region of Brazil, on 9 February, causing flooding and landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
Media reports, as of 12 February, six fatalities and five injured people in Minas Gerais due to a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall, and two injured people in Rio de Janeiro due to severe weather-related incidents. Several landslides have been reported in Rio de Janeiro that caused road closures and affected public transport.
Over the next 48 hours, drier conditions are forecast over the affected areas.
