  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting the capital Nairobi area in south-central Kenya since 6 March, causing  widespread flooding that has resulted in casualties and damage.  
  • Media report, as of 9 March, 42 fatalities, hundreds of families that have been displaced, destroyed houses, damage to vehicles, road closures, and traffic disruption at the Nairobi airport.
    Search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
  • Over the next 48 hours, showers and thunderstorms are expected over Nairobi city and the south-eastern part of the country.
