GREEN alert: The Stromboli Volcanic eruption is unlikely to require external humanitarian assistance based on the exposed population and coping capacity.
The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report provides information about global volcanism on a weekly basis. Latest Stromboli report has been published on 03 Jul 2019 09:41. INGV reported that during 30 June-2 July activity at Stromboli was characterized by ongoing low-to-medium intensity Strombolian explosions and degassing from multiple vents within the crater terrace. A high-energy explosion from vent C in Area C-S (South Central crater area) was recorded at 2303 on 25 June. The event lasted for about 28 seconds, ejected material that fell onto most of the crater terrace and into the Valle della Luna, and widened the vent. Stromboli Eruption on the 3rd July 2019 - Analysis of the sea level measurements
16/Jul/2019 07:57 UTC
The paroxysm in Stromboli Volcano on the 3rd July 2019 triggered a Tsunami, measured in at least 4 locations around the island. The highest on-shore measured height was 40 cm in Ginostra. A floating instrument, closer to the source point, measured about 1.2 m. Larger values were probably occurring on the coasts of the Volcano, but no survey has been carried out yet. As various hypotheses for the source of the Tsunami have been proposed, an analysis of the sea level measurements was performed. The results allow to back calculate the origin of the location of the disturb that caused the Tsunami.
