  • Tropical Depression TWENTY TWO formed over the Philippine Sea and its centre was approximately 1,700 km east of Catanduanes island (Bicol Region, central Luzon) on 28 October, with maximum sustained winds of 46 km/h.
  • TWENTY TWO is forecast to strengthen, as it moves west towards central Luzon on 1 November, potentially passing through the same area as Tropical Cyclone MOLAVE on 25-26 October, where 9 people died and more than 209,000 were affected. 
  • Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast over Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Western Visayas, Batanes, and Cagayan.

  • Tropical Storm GONI is moving over the Philippine Sea, its centre was located approximately 1,300 km east of Catanduanes island (Bicol Region, central Luzon) on 29 October at 0.00 UTC, with maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h.
  • GONI is forecast to further intensify, moving westwards with maximum sustained winds up to 148 km/h (typhoon) before making landfall over the east of Central Luzon early on 1 November.

  • After the passage of Typhoon GONI over Bicol and Calabarzon Regions on 31 October - 1 November, strong wind, flooding and volcanic mudflow have been reported, resulting in casualties and damage. 
  • According to the national authorities of the Philippines, 17 people died and 2 have been injured in Bicol and Calabarzon Regions. Approximately 1.6 million people have been affected and more than 333,800 residents were displaced to evacuation centers. Damage has been reported to 50 road sections and 5 bridges. 
  • A state of calamity was declared for Cavite Province (Calabarzon), while the aforementioned regions are still recovering from the effects of the recent typhoon, Molave.
  • GONI is currently moving westwards over the South China Sea and its center was located approximately 670 km east of Qui Hnon City (Binh Dinh Province). It is forecast to make landfall over central Vietnam on 5 November, as a tropical depression. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected from 3 November over the central areas. 
  • DG ECHO is monitoring the situation and considering the possibility of using the ALERT instrument to assist those affected.

  • Tropical Storm GONI is moving over the South China Sea and approaching the central coast of Vietnam. It is forecast to make landfall as a tropical depression in the area north of Qui Nhon on the afternoon of 5 November.
  • Preparedness measures are ongoing, as central Vietnam has been heavily affected by rainfall, floods and landslides caused by precedent typhoons.
  • Meanwhile, in the Philippines the number of fatalities caused by the passage of GONI has increased to 20 and 74 people have been injured, 3 are missing across Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Bicol Regions. There are 24,750 damaged houses and 382,708 persons are currently displaced to evacuation centers. In total, approximately 2.08 million people have been affected. 
  • On 4-6 November, very heavy rainfall and strong wind are forecast over Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh Provinces (central Vietnam).
  • The EU has allocated a financial support of EUR 1.3 million to provide emergency humanitarian assistance for those affected by Typhoon Goni in the Philippines.

  • GONI made landfall as a tropical depression over southern Binh Dinh Province. On 6 November, its centre was approximately 9 km to Thon Giang Nam City (Binh Dinh Province, central Vietnam) with maximum sustained wind of 56 km/h.  This is the fifth tropical cyclone that hit Vietnam during  the last 30 days.
  • In Vietnam, more than 13,000 people have been evacuated across the Provinces of Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh.
  • In the Philippines the number of fatalities increased to 22, following the passage of GONI. 165 people have been injured and 3 are missing across Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Bicol Regions. At least 1,2 million people have been affected and more than 171,000 displaced.
  • Over the next 24 hours, GONI is forecast to weaken and dissipate as it continues west-southwest over western and central Cambodia. Moderate to heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over central and southern Vietnam, most parts of Cambodia and southern Laos.
  • Warnings for flood, flash flood and landslide have been issued for the mountainous area of central Vietnam.
