  • An earthquake of 5.6 M at a depth of 10 km hit southern Azad Jammu and Kashmir Territory (north-eastern Pakistan) on 24 September at 11.01 UTC. The epicentre was approximately 4 km south-southeast of New Mirpur City.
  • Up 3,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and up to 910,000 to strong shaking.
  • According to media reports, at least 25 people have died and around 400 have been injured. Hundreds of houses have collapsed, many roads have been destroyed or damaged and as well as several bridges.
  • The national authorities have deployed rescue teams to help those affected.
  • For the next 48 hours, moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast over the region hit by the earthquake.

  • Following the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in southern Azad Jammu and Kashmir Territory (north-eastern Pakistan) on 24 September, the number of fatalities has increased to 38, with another 593 people injured.
  • More than 450 houses and 2 bridges were damaged across Mirpur and Jhelum, the two most affected areas.
  • On 25 September two tremors measuring 3.6 and 3.7 on the Richter scale, and another measuring 4.7 were felt.
  • Relief operations are ongoing, with the army are providing logistical and medical support to assist those affected.
  • DG ECHO's office in Islamabad has deployed two humanitarian experts to the affected area.

  • After the 5.6 magnitude earthquake and strong aftershock of 4.7 M in southern Azad Jammu and Kashmir Territory (north-east Pakistan) on 24 September, the number of fatalities has increased.
  • According to the latest report by Muslim Aid from 30 September, 40 people died and more than 1,600 have been injured. 1,619 houses collapsed and 7,100 have been damaged.
