Storm Ciara / Sabine, Northern Europe, February 2020Powerful storm Ciara (also known as Sabine in Germany) brought strong winds to parts of northern Europe from 09 February, 2020. Ireland: High waves combined with high tide caused some coastal flooding in areas around Dublin (in particular Sutton), Ireland. Heavy rainfall also triggered minor flooding on roads, with the worst reported near Ballymote, County Sligo and near Inagh in County Clare. United Kingdom: Parts of northern England recorded heavy rain of up to 150mm in 24 hours to 09 February. Rivers broke their banks causing flooding. The worst affected areas included towns in the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire; parts of Ribble Valley, Lancashire; Greater Manchester and Appleby in Cumbria. In Scotland, part of a building collapsed as a result of fast-flowing water of the Teviot River in Hawick. Areas of Dumfries were flooded after the River Nith burst its banks. Other areas: As of 10 February, winds from Ciara / Sabine had caused hundreds of flights to be grounded and rail services cancelled in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.Sun 9 Feb 2020FloodList provided by Copernicus GLOFAS
