New Quake Shakes Greek Island of Karpathos

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the Eastern Dodecanese islands at 13:24 local time (11:24 UTC) on Thursday. The epicenter of the temblor was located in the sea some 57 kilometers (35 miles) east of the Aegean island of Karpathos , according to the Geodynamics Institute of the Athens National Observatory.

One area still reeling from a huge earthquake is Turkey which on Friday, January 24 was hit by a magnitude-6.7 quake. This killed at least 38 people and injured more than 1,600 when it hit 21 miles from Elazig. Buildings crumbled into rubble, leaving thousands homeless with 45 survivors pulled from the debris in the days since.
