Typhoon Halong, which recently became the third super typhoon of 2014 in the Western Pacific basin, sideswiped Japan's Daito Islands Thursday afternoon with 106-mph wind gusts as it moves north toward areas of mainland Japan that have already seen as much as 54 inches of rain since the start of August.
