  • A new tropical storm named ELEANOR formed over the southern Indian Ocean, east of north-eastern Madagascar, on 19 February and started moving eastward, slightly strenghtening. On 20 February at 6.00 UTC its centre was located offshore very far of northern coast of Mauritius, with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h (tropical storm).
  • ELEANOR is expected to turn south over the Ocean on 20-21 February, strenghtening. After that it is forecast to pass very close to the eastern coast of Mauritius on the afternoon of 22 February, with maximum sustained winds up to 137 km/h (tropical cyclone).
  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over Mauritius starting from 21 February and over Reunion from 22 February. The Mauritius Meteorological Services has issued a Class 1 Warning for cyclone over the whole Island.

  • Tropical cyclone ELEANOR continued south over the southern Indian Ocean toward Mauritius, as a tropical storm. On 22 February at 6.00 UTC its centre was located offshore approximately 85 km north-east of Mauritius main island and 480 km west of the Rodrigues Island (Mauritius), with maximum sustained winds of 108 km/h (tropical storm).
  • ELEANOR is expected to pass very close to the eastern coast of Mauritius on 22 February in the afternoon (UTC), slightly strenghtening. After that, on 23-25 February, it is forecast to turn westward, remaining well south of Reunion, as a tropical storm.
  • Over the next 24, heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over Mauritius and Reunion, while heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surge are forecast over the Rodrigues Island for the next 48 hours. The Mauritius Meteorological Services has issued a Class 3 Warning for cyclone over the Mauritius main island and a warning for heavy rainfall and strong wind over Rodrigues.
