Deep M6.0 earthquake hits Fiji region

The epicenter was located 695 km (431 miles) SW of Vaini, Tonga and 799 km (496 miles) S of Suva, Fiji. There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles). There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake. The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

Tonga: Magnitude-5.0 offshore earthquake occurs west of Nuku'alofa Oct. 19.

Event. A magnitude-5.0 earthquake occurred in the South Pacific Ocean west of Nuku'alofa, Tonga at approximately 23:28 Oct. 19. The epicenter was about 59 km (36 miles) west of Haveluloto. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout most of Tonga, excluding Vava'u and Lifuka islands.
