  • After the magmatic eruption, ashfall, pyroclastic flow and rockfall events occurred on 1 January and 6 January at the Mayon volcano (Albay province, Bicol region, south-eastern Luzon Island), and the number of displaced people increased.
  • According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), as of 9 January, the volcano Alert Level stands at 3 (intensified unrest).
  • The ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports, as of the same date, 3 602 currently displaced people across 13 evacuation centres. The entry into the 6 km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is still strictly prohibited, as issued by PHIVOLCS.

  • In the past 24 hours, the activity of Mayon volcano continues and was characterised by an ash plume up to 1 km high, 526 tonnes of sulfure dioxide gas emission, and localized pyroclastic flows.
  • Due to this unrest, national authorities reported that more than 4 000 people have been evacuated across 14 evacuation centres located in Albay province.
  • The alert level of the volcano stands at the third, and entry into the 6 km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is still strictly prohibited as issued by the Philippines Volcanological Centre (PHIVOLCS).

  • In the recent days, ongoing effusive and explosive eruptions of Mayon Volcano, located in the province of Albay in the Bicol region, have produced lava and pyroclastic flows on the southern and eastern slopes of the volcano.
  • The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded, in the past 24?hours, three lava flows with an extension of up to 3.8?km (along the Basud gully) and six pyroclastic-flow events.
  • The Alert Level?3 (magmatic unrest) remains in effect. PHIVOLCS reminds residents within the 8-km extended danger zone, especially those on the southern and eastern slopes of Mayon, to stay prepared for possible evacuation should volcanic activity increase.
