  • A huge wildfire has been burning across western Türkiye (in particular in the Izmir province) since 13 August, causing population evacuations and damage.
  • According to the JRC European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the wildfire has burnt an area of nearly 4,000 hectares in the area of the coastal city of Izmir. The wildfire is not yet fully contained.
  • Media report, as of 19 August, approximately 4,000 evacuated people, 29 injured people and 17 destroyed houses across the affected area.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the JRC European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), the fire danger forecast is expected to be high across most of western Türkiye.
