Bulgaria, September 2022Torrential rain in central Bulgaria from 02 September caused rivers to overflow flooding the villages of Bogdan, Rozino, Karavelovo, Stoletovo, Pesnopoi and Trilistnik in Plovdiv Province. Several people were evacuated from their homes by emergency teams. At least one person was rescued from a vehicle swept away by flood waters. Electricity supply was interrupted across the area. Bridges and roads were damaged leaving affected areas isolated. Military helicopters were used to deliver relief supplies and carry out rescues of around 6 people. A further 40 or more people were rescued by boat. Around 500 people in total were evacuated. Media reported an embankment along the Stryama River failed, causing much of the flooding. At one point the entire village of Bogdan was under water up to 2 metres deep. At least 200 homes were flooded. Heavy rain in north eastern Bulgaria caused flooding in Dobrich Province, where 53 people were evacuated on 03 September 2022.Mon 5 Sep 2022Provided by Copernicus EMS GloFAS
