Finland, January 2023The Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) reported flooding in parts of western and southern Finland in mid-January 2023 after melting snow, rain and some ice jams. As of 17 January, some roads and fields were underwater but overall damage was expected to be minor. Flooding may threaten residential buildings in Pitkäjärvi, Syke warned. Syke said on 17 January that water levels have risen to rare winter flood levels in the rivers of southern and southwestern Finland and on the coast south of Vaasa.
