Laos, Early August 2026Local and government media reported flooding in several areas of Laos from early August 2026, including Luang Prabang and Khammouane Provinces. Levels along the Mekong river in Vientiane increased from 06 August. By 12–13 August, flooding and riverbank erosion were also reported in Champasak Province as Mekong River levels continued to rise. On 19 August 2026, the official Lao News Agency (KPL) reported that several consecutive days of heavy rainfall caused the Sedone River to overflow its banks in Saravan District, Salavan Province. On he same day the Nan River broke its banks in Nan District, Luang Prabang Province. Note: Flooding along the Mekong impacted neighbouring areas of northern Cambodia from mid-August 2026.
