  • On 31 August, a huge landslide triggered by recent torrential rainfall occurred in the Marra Mountains area, Central Darfur state, south-western Sudan, resulting in casualties and significant destruction.
  • According to media reports, the village of Tarasin has been completely buried by the landslide, leading to more than 1,000 fatalities.
  • In the next 48 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected across the affected area.

  • On 31 August, heavy rainfall triggered a landslide near Tarsin village in Sharg Aj Jabal locality, on the border of Central and South Darfur, Sudan, resulting in death and displacement. Separately, on 1 September, intense rainfall and subsequent flooding impacted Korma town in Al Fasher locality, North Darfur, also resulting in displacement and destruction.
  • As of 2 September, according to UN OCHA the death toll remains unclear, with local reports indicating from 300 to 1,000 fatalities. The International Organization for Migration (IOM), as of 3 September, additionally reports the displacement of 150 people from Tarsin village and surrounding areas. Access to the region remains severely limited due to mountainous terrain and heavy rains, with communication and connectivity disrupted.
  • In Al Fasher, North Darfur, IOM reports 70 households displaced following the destruction of 70 homes and multiple latrines.
  • Over the next 48 hours, additional rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across the southern half of Sudan.
