  • A new tropical cyclone named TIFFANY formed over the Coral Sea on 9 January and started moving west toward the Cape York Peninsula (Far North Queensland). On 10 January at 0.00 UTC its centre was located approximately 30 km east of the coast and 85 km east of the Coen Town, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h.
  • TIFFANY made landfall over this area (around 90 km south-east of Coen) on 10 January early in the morning (UTC), with maximum sustained winds up to 120 km/h. It is expected to enter in the Gulf of Carpentaria and to make a second landfall over the Groote Eylandt Island (Northern Territory, the largest Island in the Gulf) in the morning (UTC) of 12 January  (UTC), with maximum sustained winds up to 120 km/h.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast over the Cape York Peninsula. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued an orange warning for gales over the southern Cape York Peninsula.

  • Tropical Cyclone TIFFANY has entered the Gulf of Carpentaria and is moving west, towards the northern Northern Territory. On 11 January at 0.00 UTC its centre was located about 80 km west off the western coast of Cape York Peninsula (Far North Queensland), and 400 km east of Groote Eylandt Island (Northern Territory), with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h. 
  • After the passage of TIFFANY, heavy rain and strong winds were reported by media across the Cape York Peninsula, where a number of people were injured and several others were rescued by local authorities. 
  • TIFFANY is forecast to make landfall over the eastern coast of Northern Territory in the morning of 12 January, with maximum sustained winds up to 95 km/h. After that it will move westwards over the northern Northern Territory, further dissipating in the early morning of 13 January.
  • Warnings for strong winds have been issued for the eastern coast of the Northern Territory. On 11-12 January, heavy rain is expected over the Cape York Peninsula and northern Northern Territory.

  • Tropical cyclone TIFFANY, after its passage over the Cape York Peninsula (Far North Queensland) and the Gulf of Carpentaria on 10-11 January, made a second landfall over the Top End region (northernmost Northern Territory) on 11 January very late in the evening (UTC), as a tropical storm. On 12 January at 0.00 UTC its centre was located inland, approximately 60 km east of Ngukurr Town (Top End region), with maximum sustained winds of 83 km/h (tropical storm).
  • Media report, as of 12 January, three rescued people in Cairns Town (Far North Queensland) and some power outages across Groote Eylandt Island (Northern Territory).
  • TIFFANY is forecast to continue moving westward over the Top End region on 12-13 January, weakening into a tropical depression and further dissipating.
  • Over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast over the Top End region.
