  • A number of bushfires continued to affect southern and south-western Western Australia, mainly the Great Southern region, south of the Perth city area, since 10 December, causing more casualties and damage.
  • As of 19 December, according to the JRC Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), the total burnt area over the Great Southern region since 10 December reached more than 15 000 ha. Most of the bushfires are currently not fully contained.
  • Media reports, as of 19 December, one fatality in the area of the Ongerup town and a number of preventatively evacuated people across some evacuation centres in the region.
  • Over the next 48 hours, according to the JRC GWIS, the fire danger forecast remains from moderate to very high over the already affected area.
