  • The seismic activity continues off the coast of West Sumatra Province. On 24 April at 20.00 UTC (25 April at 3.00 UTC local time) a 7.1 M earthquake (6.9 M as recorded by the Indonesian authorities) at a depth of 15 km occurred between the islands of Bojo (Batu Islands, North Sumatra Province) and Siberut (Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra Province). The epicentre was located approximately 205 km west-northwest of Padang City (the capital of West Sumatra Province).
  • According to USGS, over the past seven days, at least seven earthquakes with magnitudes between 4.6 M and 7.1 M have been registered.
  • USGS PAGER estimates that up to 7,000 people were exposed to severe shaking, 20,000 to very strong and 34,000 to strong shaking.
  • The ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports 5,550 displaced people and one house heavily damaged across the most affected locations (South Nias, Padang City, Mentawai Islands, West Pasaman, Padang Pariaman, Agam, and Gunung Sitoli) located in North and West Sumatra Province.
