  • An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 M - 6.1 M as recorded by national authorities - at a depth of 35 km occurred offshore near the coast of Esmeraldas Province, northwestern Ecuador on 25 April at 11:44 UTC (6:44 local time). The epicentre was located approximately 13.5 km northwest of Río Verde town in Esmeraldas Province.
  • According to USGS PAGER, up to 198,000 people were exposed to very strong shaking and 80,000 to strong shaking.
  • The Ecuadorian Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) reports that 49 people have been injured, more than 2,100 people affected, and 668 houses damaged.
  • National authorities are providing assistance and conducting damage assessments in the impacted area.
