Peru - Landslide and flood
  • A landslide occurred at the Vallunaraju lagoon, triggering the overflow of the Casca River, which resulted in casualties and damage in Huaraz province, Ancash region, central Peru.
  • According to media reports as at 28 April, two people were killed, with five others reported missing and around 100 injured. Additionally, 60 homes were affected, with 50 sustaining minor damage, while three bridges and one road collapsed. The incident also caused power outages and disruptions to drinking water supplies. As a precautionary measure, classes were suspended in public schools.
  • Over the next 48 hours, further rainfall is expected, with isolated areas potentially experiencing heavy to very heavy downpours across Peru.
