  • On 5 May, heavy rainfall affected the Nord-Est Department, causing rivers to overflow and resulting in widespread flooding and damage.
  • According to UN OCHA, as of 9 May, more than 3,000 families have been affected, and nearly 4,000 houses were flooded across the municipalities of Ouanaminthe (3,200 houses) and Ferrier (700 houses). In addition, the floods caused damage to property and to National Road 6. Some food crops have been destroyed, and losses of livestock have also been reported.
  • According to first evaluations from the Haitian General Direcorate for Civil Portection (DGPC) cited by UN OCHA, most immediate needs are drinking water, hygiene items, shelter, Non food items (NFI), food and learning materials for children affected.
  • Moderate to locally heavy rainfall is expected across most of the country, including the affected department, over the next 24 hours.
