Senegal - Floods
  • Heavy rainfall in the upper Senegal River basin, combined with the water releases from the Manantali dam in south-western Mali, caused the overflow of the Senegal River in the Bakel department of eastern Senegal, resulting in population displacement and widespread damage.
  • According to media, as of 7 October, 178 families have been displaced in 27 evacuation centres, and at least 3,825 people have been affected by flooding. Several houses have been destroyed, buildings have been affected, and roads have been blocked.
  • Local authorities are providing support to those affected.
  • On 7 October, drier conditions are expected over Senegal, and local rainfall is forecast over eastern Senegal on 8 October.
