Venezuela - Landslide
  • Heavy rainfall caused a landslide and floods in a gold mining area on 12 October in the El Callao municipality of the Bolivar state in eastern Venezuela, causing casualties.
  • According to media reports, as of 15 October, at least 14 people died, and two people have been rescued.
  • Search and rescue operations are still ongoing for those affected.
  • On 15-16 October, more rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast for the affected municipality over most of central and southern Venezuela.
  • El Callao in Bolívar state is an area with high protection needs and where public health services are largely absent. By the end of 2025 only 8  (out of 22 in 2024) humanitarian organisations will remain as per funding cuts.  Overall, nearly 70% of the Venezuelan population requires assistance and over 56% live in extreme poverty. The response is severely underfunded, with the 2025 HRP currently funded at 13%.
