  • Heavy rainfall bringing floods and flash floods have been affecting Badakhshan province in northeastern Afghanistan, causing fatalities, injuries and damage.
  • According to media, at 5 May, two people were killed and three injured. Roads and buildings, drinking water networks as well as farmland have been destroyed.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rain is forecast across Afghanistan.

  • Heavy rainfall, accompanied by storms and thunderstorms, has brought floods and flash floods to the eastern and southeastern regions of Afghanistan from 5 to 10 May, resulting in fatalities and damage.
  • According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) – Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), as at 11 May, seven people were killed, 33 injured, and 183 families affected. Homes and public infrastructure were damaged, and cropland and livestock losses were reported.
  • Over the next 4 days, only isolated moderate rain is forecast for the northeast of Afghanistan, with dry conditions over the rest of the country.
