  • Severe weather, including very heavy rainfall and strong winds, has been affecting north-western USA since 8 December, causing several severe weather-related incidents and floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and media report, as of 19 December, two fatalities, one in Snohomish county, Washington and one across Kootenai county, Idaho, the latter is due to the strong wind. The same sources also report two injured persons in Kootenai county. In addition, 186 evacuated people in 12 shelters and 395 rescued people were reported across Washington state, where the most affected counties are Chelan, King, Snohomish, Skagit, Sauk-Suiattle and Yakama. Moreover, FEMA reports three destroyed bridges in Lincoln county, Montana. Both Washington and Montana are under a state of emergency.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall, strong winds and snowfall are still forecast over most of the north-western USA, mainly across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.
