  • The humanitarian impact of the rainy season continues to increase across much of Ecuador. The country has experienced more than 1,000 landslides and nearly 1,000 flood events.
  • According to national authorities, 34 people have died (most of them in the provinces of Loja, Manabí, and Guayas), and 117 others have been injured. Additionally, nearly 142,000 people have been affected, and more than 43,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed.
  • In addition, an oil spill that has impacted Esmeraldas Province in northern Ecuador since 13 March has affected approximately 14,619 people across five cantons, according to the Government of Ecuador.
  • On 26 February, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMSR789) was activated to provide flood extent emergency mapping.
  • On 22 March, the UNEP/OCHA Joint Environmental Unit (JEU) requested expert assistance through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM). Two experts from the Netherlands and Spain were deployed from 26 March to 10 April to join the UNDAC team.
  • Moderate to very heavy rainfall is forecast for 10–11 April, particularly in the western provinces, including Esmeraldas.

  • Ecuador continues to experience heavy rainfall associated with the ongoing rainy season. Nearly 1,200 landslides and 1,085 flood events have been recorded, resulting in fatalities, widespread destruction, and damage. The western provinces of Manabí, Los Ríos, and Guayas are among the most affected.
  • According to the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), as of 20 April and since 1 January, 44 people have died, approximately 166,000 individuals have been affected, and over 53,800 buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
  • On 6 March, Ecuador requested assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) in response to the floods.
  • On 22 March, the UNEP/OCHA Joint Environment Unit (JEU) requested expert assistance through the UCPM in response to the related 13 March oil spill in Esmeraldas. Two experts from the Netherlands and Spain were deployed from 26 March to 10 April to join an UNDAC team.
    On 31 March, the ERCC requested the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) to provide high-resolution satellite imagery on the oil spill damage extent (MSS-145783)
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated on 26 February and 18 March to provide emergency flood extent mapping (EMSR789/EMSR796). So far, 68 maps have been produced.
  • For the next 24 hours, moderate to isolated heavy rainfall is expected across most of the country, especially over the western parts.

  • The humanitarian impact in Ecuador continues to worsen due to ongoing heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides associated with the rainy season. Over 1,260 landslides and 1,128 flood events have been recorded, leading to fatalities, widespread destruction, and significant damage. The western provinces of Manabí, Los Ríos, and Guayas are among the hardest hit.
  • According to the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), as of 28 April, and since 1 January, 48 people have died, more than 182,000 individuals have been affected, and nearly 60,000 buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
  • On 6 March, Ecuador requested assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) in response to the flooding emergency.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated on 26 February and 18 March to provide emergency flood extent mapping (/). To date, 72 maps have been produced.
  • For the next 72 hours, moderate to locally heavy rainfall is forecast across most parts of the country.

  • Ecuador continues to experience the devastating effects of heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides brought on by the rainy season. With over 1,322 reported landslides and 1,163 flood incidents, the consequences include loss of life, extensive destruction, and significant damage. The western provinces, including Manabí, Los Ríos, Guayas, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Loja, Santa Elena, Pichincha, Bolívar, and Cotopaxi, have been particularly hard hit.
  • As at 6 May, according to the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), 49 people died, more than 189,200 people have been affected, and 61,149 buildings have been damaged or destroyed since 1 January.
  • In response to the flooding emergency, Ecuador requested assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) on 6 March.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated on 26 February and 18 March to provide critical flood extent mapping, and produced 83 maps.
  • The forecast indicates moderate rainfall across most of the country over the next 72 hours, with heavy rainfall expected in the western provinces.

Over 1,466 landslides and 1,304 flood events have been recorded, leading to fatalities, widespread destruction, and significant damage. The western provinces of Manabí, Los Ríos, Guayas and El Oro are among the hardest hit.
  • According to the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR), as of 3 June, and since 1 January, 49 people have died, almost 204,000 individuals have been affected, and more than 70,000 buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
  • On 6 March, Ecuador requested assistance from the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) in response to the flooding emergency.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated on 26 February and 18 March to give emergency flood extent mapping (/), 83 maps had been produced so far. 
  • For the next 72 hours, moderate rainfall is forecast across most parts of central, northern, and eastern Ecuador.
