  • On 3-4 August, heavy rain and consequent floods affected northern India, particularly Uttar Pradesh, resulting in casualties and damage.
  • According to Shere India, as of 4 August, 12 people have died, more than 84,000 have been affected in 17 Districts of Uttar Pradesh, and 343 houses have been damaged.
  • Additionally, on 1-2 August, other states have been impacted by heavy rain and consequent floods, landslides and severe weather-related incidents, including Andhra Pradesh, where six people died, Himachal Pradesh (two fatalities), Madhya Pradesh (six fatalities), Sikkim (one), and Uttarakhand (two).
  • On 5–7 August, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast across southern, northern, and northeastern Indian states. On 5 August, red warnings for extremely heavy rain were issued across Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

  • On 5 August, an intense cloudburst triggered flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand state, in the Himalayan region of northern India. It caused fatalities, with many still unaccounted for, and extensive destruction.
  • As of 6 August, media report five confirmed fatalities. Approximately 100 people are still missing, and around 190 individuals have been rescued. The floods have destroyed and buried several buildings under debris, resulting in school closures in some areas. 
  • 120 army personnel are involved in ongoing rescue operations, but face challenges due to continued rainfall and damaged key roads caused by the floods.
  • Over the next 24 hours, very heavy to extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected across Uttarakhand, where red weather warnings remain in place. The broader southeastern region has also issued orange alerts for the same severe weather conditions.
