Italy - Floods and landslides
  • On 22 September, a severe storm affected northern Italy, particularly the Piemonte and Lombardy regions, including the city of Milan and its surroundings, resulting in significant flooding due to the overflow of the Seveso River and several landslides, causing damage to buildings and infrastructure.
  • According to media reports, one person is missing in Spigno Monferrato, province of Alessandria, Piedmont, with search and rescue efforts ongoing. Five people were rescued in Lentate sul Seveso, and two others in Meda, provincia di Monza e Brianza.
  • In Milan, three schools in the Niguarda area were evacuated. Schools in Como and its surrounding province were ordered to remain closed on 23 September. Several other evacuations were reported across the two regions, along with road closures.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management System (EMS) in rapid mapping mode was activated on 22 September to provide emergency flood extent and damage assessment mapping.
  • Additional rain is forecast for 23–24 September over the affected regions.
