  • Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting southern, south-western and northern France, in particular Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Alpes-Maritimes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Centre-Val de Loire regions, and the greater Paris area over the last 48 hours, causing floods, rivers overflow and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • Media report, as of 18 October, one fatality, due to a strong wind-related incident and two injured persons due to floods in the greater Paris area.
  • Media also report more than 900 evacuated people across the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, where the affected departments are Ardèche, Rhône, and Haute-Loire departments. Around ten evacuated people were reported across the Alpes-Maritimes department, Alpes-Maritimes region.
  • In addition, the Interdepartmental Crisis Management Operational Centre (COGIC) reports 2,485 rescued people across the affected regions.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecast over most of France, except over the north-western departments.
